The Sayreville Planning Board heard testimony about the development of a self storage facility at the former Club Pure (1970 Route 35) during its June 7 meeting. The facility will be operated by InSite Development Partners, a Torrance, CA-based self storage developer, operator, and manager. The developer seeks site plan approval for the proposed facility on Route 35.
InSite builds storage locations under its SecureSpace brand all across the country, including a nearby facility at 1635 Stelton Road in Piscataway. In March, the company opened a facility in Livingston.
The Sayreville Borough Council approved an ordinance that set this redevelopment plan for the former Club Pure property at its August 15 meeting. You can read the borough’s preliminary investigation of the site by clicking here.
During its heyday, Club Pure was a premier venue for private events including Bar Mitzvahs, Sweet 16s, birthday celebrations, weddings, and corporate events.
“We don’t want to be a nightclub, we want to be a self storage facility,” Bob Smith, attorney for InSite Development Partners, said to the Planning Board.
At the planning board meeting on June 7, Smith listed benefits that he says the new 100,500 sq. foot facility would have in the community:
- Clean usage (no smokestacks or chemical coming from the facility)
- Very low traffic generation
- Taxes generated for the borough
