Family-owned Stack and Store has opened its 2nd new 100,000-square-foot self-storage facility in Bel Air, making it the 8th store in Harford County with high-tech features.
The state-of-the-art self-storage unit officially opened on April 30 at 726 Belair Road off Route 1. The facility offers climate-controlled units, site fencing, 24-hour surveillance, an on-site resident manager, 18 different-sized units, and 24-7 support. Customers can access the site via an electronic keypad with a personalized code or a mobile app. Alarmed units also are available. There are 697 leasable units with large loading elevators on both sides of the building.
Michael Fuld, executive vice president of Stack and Store Self Storage, told Patch that climate-controlled self storage is important for several reasons, particularly when it comes to protecting sensitive belongings from damage due to extreme heat and cold.
“Climate-controlled units maintain a temperature range between 55 and 80 degrees. If you’re storing sensitive items, such as documents, collectibles, electronics or furniture, climate controlled storage helps keep the items from being exposed to natural elements. Climate controlled units also help maintain humidity in a way non-climate units don’t, which can help to prevent the growth of mold and mildew on your precious items,” Fuld said.
The smallest option is a 5×5-foot unit, which is the equivalent to a small walk-in closet. The largest climate controlled units measure 10×30 feet, which is the equivalent of just slightly smaller a 2-car garage. The new facility also features several security options that help to ensure tenants’ belongings remain safe and secure.
“With gated fencing and keypad access, tenants are able to only access the areas of the property that they need to get to in order to access their unit. For example, a tenant who rents on the 1st floor wouldn’t be able to access the fourth floor and vice versa. We also have 24/7 video surveillance and electronic access logging so we knows who’s in the facility at any given time. Lastly, while many self-storage companies have moved away from providing an on-site resident manager in an effort to save costs, Stack and Store still believes in the importance of having someone living on the property and can be available to handle any situation that may arise even after business hours,” Fuld told Patch.
There are three generations involved with the family business and Fuld happens to be the third. Phyllis and Louis Friedman are the first generation and still involved and active in the daily operations of the company, Fuld said.
“It’s truly a blessing to have the opportunity to be a part of a local family business. I’m glad to have been a part of it. I’ve had the opportunity to learn so much from the older generations, as they pass on their wisdom and expertise,” Fuld told Patch.
Louis and Phyllis Friedman founded Stack and Store in 1983 to provide convenient, secure and budget-friendly space to store belongings and commercial goods. Since the opening of their first facility, Stack and Store has expanded to eight locations, including Bel Air’s latest site.

In addition to the two Bel Air locations, Stack and Store Self Storage can be found along Route 40 in Havre de Grace (1746 Pulaski Hwy), Aberdeen (805 S Philadelphia Road), Edgewood (1007 Edgewood Road), Joppa (527 Pulaski Hwy) and in the Emmorton Business Park near I-95 Exit 77 (2100 Emmorton Park Road). There also is a facility next to Plaza Ford at 1621 Belair Road in Fallston.
