A New Storage Facility is Being Built in Jackson

Jackson Self Storage is building a new facility

A new development in Jackson is bringing another storage facility to the area.

A property at 1700 S. Cooper St. will be the new home of a Jackson Self Storage location. Construction is taking place at the site to build a new facility for residents with larger-storage needs, such as equipment for small businesses, owner Doug Dysert said.

They’re very popular for people who have tools and equipment for small businesses, like say a landscaping company or a plumbing company,” Dysert said. “It’s kind of in between working out of your truck and having your own facility.”

Dysert purchased the 7-acre property from Daugherty Tree Service for $165,000 back in August of 2021, according to property records. One building is currently being brought up and will offer six units that are 14 feet by 40 feet, along with one unit that is 20 feet by 40 feet. This will be available to rent in about two weeks, he said.

If this building is well received, two more buildings will be added next year and will offer nine 20 feet by 40 feet units, he said. The site can fit nine total buildings, but additional construction will wait until Dysert receives feedback on resident’s needs on unit sizes.

Along with the units, parking spaces are going to be added to the outside of the facility. Around 135 spaces are expected to accommodate pontoons, boats, campers and trailers, he said. This should be available for rent in about a month, he said.

This is Jackson Self Storage’s third location, including the one next door at 1750 S. Cooper St. and 2565 W. Michigan Ave. The units and the parking spaces are being built after the business realized it was running out of room to expand onto its other locations, Dysert said.

People just kept coming,” Dysert said.

Rental prices for the units are still being decided, but Dysert is expecting it to be around market rate, he said. This information will be updated on Jackson Self Storage’s website once the facilities are constructed, he said.

People interested in inquiring about the space can call Dysert Concrete at 517-782-2200 or Jackson Self Storage at 517-782-0882.
