(BCDC) have embarked on their fourth joint venture, breaking ground on an 85,825-square-foot self storage facility. This project, nestled on South McColl Road, spans nearly two acres and promises to serve the South McAllen-Pharr submarket with 762 climate-controlled units.

The partnership between Bakke Development and BCDC has been a fruitful one, with this new project marking their fourth collaboration in the self storage sector. Their most recent endeavor, an 802-unit facility also in McAllen, commenced construction earlier this year.

The project’s success is not solely due to the synergy between Bakke Development and BCDC. Alamo Architects, Halff Associates, Independent Contractors, and Security State Bank are integral to the project, each bringing their unique expertise to the table.

The McAllen market is currently witnessing a surge in self storage facilities, with nine properties under construction. Among these, Bakke Development has a significant stake, with six properties in the market, four of which are in progress.

The new facility will be one of 11 self storage developments within a 3-mile radius, offering residents a generous 6.9 square feet per capita. This reflects the growing demand for secure and climate-controlled storage solutions in the area.

The self storage industry is not confined to McAllen. In nearby San Antonio, U-Haul recently announced a new 750-unit facility, further underscoring the sector’s growth.
