Overflow Storage Opens a New Self-Storage Facility in Rose Hill, NC

Overflow Storage: Ribbon-cutting ceremony

Overflow Storage, a locally family-owned business, held its grand opening last week, filling the gap for everyday storage needs. Family members, the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce and supporters celebrated the event with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 6.

Owners Michael and Tammy Colston said they had researched ways to use their 20 acres of land at 3940 North Carolina Highway 903 in a way to help their community.

Tammy said they determined there was a need for self-storage in that surrounding area. “Especially for people visiting Lake Gaston each year who need RV, jet ski, boat, and other lake toy storage space,” she said. “We also realized that there is a need for boat storage for the people who travel from out of town to fish our great Roanoke River each year.”

The facility offers 84 non-climate-controlled inside units — 5×10, 10×10, 10×15 and 10×25, as well as 50 outside, open-air spaces ranging in size from 8×20 to 9×20.

Tammy said the outside space sizes can be adjusted as needed to accommodate larger items. “We are very motivated to stand out in the self-storage business,” she said. “We offer competitive pricing with the first month’s rental being free. We have a seamless online registration process for our clients to get the space they need, sign our lease, pay and get their gate code all in one place.”

The facility is open and available 24 hours a day, with video surveillance monitoring all areas of the facility. She said they have an app specifically designed for the facility to assist with account management and remotely open the gate before a customer’s arrival.

“So there is no wait if you happen to be driving a long vehicle or pulling a boat,” Tammy said. “We are a local and family-owned small business, which makes us very accessible if problems arise. We have a quarterly pest control service to prevent bugs and mice from entering our units.”

The business’s first phase stands on two acres of land, with the rest of the acres to fill based on the needs of the community, she said.

“The community has been great to us so far,” Tammy said. “While we are trying to get a feel for the needs of services for our area, we have had many calls for covered boat and RV storage as well as climate-controlled units.”

But this is just the beginning for the family-owned business and with the community.

Tammy said it is a special moment for her family because they are a community-focused family who love serving others.

“We would like to offer an upscale experience for those who need our facility and give a hometown experience for each client we have,” she said. “Our family would like to thank everyone who has stood behind us and supported us through this experience. We are firm believers and feel God has placed each and every person who has worked for us in our path for our project. We have made great friendships along the way that will last a lifetime. We are now a part of a family we didn’t even know existed until this journey was started. Everyone in the storage business helps and supports each other, and we are truly blessed by so many awesome people in this industry.”
