Plans to convert the former Sears store at The Mall at Greece Ridge into a self-storage center are moving forward.
SGRC LLC, an affiliate of mall owner Wilmorite Management Group, LLC, completed the sale of the former Sears retail property to a series of entities connected to True Storage.
Headquartered in Manchester, N.H., True Storage specializes in the conversion of former big-box stores into self-storage facilities, which are then managed by third-party operators such as Cube Smart, National Storage and Store Space.
2527, LLC; Bourne Acquisition, LLC; Greece Ridge Property, LLC; and JB Greece, LLC paid $4 million for the property, which is just shy of 124,000 square feet. The deed was filed on Monday with the Monroe County Clerk’s Office.
True Storage recently received approval from the town of Greece for repurposing of the vacant building into a self storage center.
Business hours would be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to information provided to the Greece Board of Zoning Appeals. Customers leasing storage units would have 24/7 keycard access.
The property has been vacant since July of 2018, when Sears shuttered operations. The store opened in 1967 as the mall’s northwest corner anchor tenant.
Wilmorite, through SGRC LLC, bought the building for $2,008,500 at auction in June of 2023 during a nationwide liquidation of Sears properties.
True Storage has facilities 14 states, from New England to Florida to the Midwest.
