Two new CubeSmart locations are now located in two previously shuttered Flint-area businesses.
CubeSmart, a Pennsylvania-based self-storage company focused on the ownership, operation, acquisition, and development of self-storage facilities, opened last month on Flint’s east side at the old Target store at 3701 Lapeer Road.
The Target store has been closed since 2016.
Another CubeSmart location is set to open on Thursday, Nov. 2 in Burton, located at 1145 N. Belsay Road.
The building is 106,000 square feet of space previously filled by Kmart and is currently shared with Dollar Tree.
Kmart closed its doors in Burton at the end of 2014, along with the Miller Road location in Flint Township around the same time frame.
A Kroger grocery store was also once located in the former Burton Kmart plaza, but it closed in January 2012. The space reopened as a Volunteers of America resale store in March 2013.
The average cost of a storage unit in Flint is $102.
Here’s the average cost by storage unit size:
- The average cost of a 5×5 storage unit is $35
- The average cost of a 10×10 storage unit is $104
- The average cost of a 10×20 storage unit is $158
Self-storage can be used for many purposes, such as an extension of your home and a place to store seldom-used items. It can also be used to store seasonal items such as decorations or sports equipment, or as a temporary home for your things while you move.
