U-Haul has completed and will officially open in September a 60,880-square-foot self-storage facility in Lebanon, PA.

The site for the new building had been in use since the 1880s when it housed a rolling mill. Throughout the 20th century, the property served various purposes and was once a silk manufacturer and a weaving company up until the 1990s when the main manufacturing building caught fire. U-Haul had purchased the property in 2022 and began the self-storage development process through its Adaptive Reuse program.

The three-story facility features 830 climate-controlled units and drive-in load and unload bays. On-site amenities include loading carts, electronic access, trailer hitches, moving and storage containers and video surveillance. An additional 10,683-square-foot U-Box warehouse includes up to 190 mobile storage containers.

U-Haul Storage at Lebanon stands on 2.7 acres at 1437 Cumberland St., directly across the street from another U-Haul center which has been there since 1979. The facility is one of the three available in a 3-mile radius, offering residents 2.3 rentable square feet per capita.

The property has access to interstates 78 and 81 and is some 30 miles east of Harrisburg, PA. The Harrisburg market had 26 self-storage properties in its development pipeline as of August, set to add approximately 1.4 million square feet to the existing inventory.

Earlier in spring, U-Haul announced the construction of another facility in Manheim, PA. The project, set for completion in 2025, would expand the company’s portfolio in the Harrisburg market with 1,295 units.
