Sunderland City Council has granted retrospective planning permission for a Pink Self Storage facility in Washington, Tyne and Wear, allowing the operator to continue using a former overspill car park near The Galleries Retail Park. The site features more than 150 Corten steel containers and is the operator’s 25th UK location. Planners cited reactivating long-vacant land and creating local jobs as factors in the decision.
The case highlights the growing role of retrospective consent in establishing container storage sites on underused urban land.
