Hundreds of shipping containers stacked two high can be sited at an industrial site on a narrow road in Blunsdon, despite the objections of neighbours and the parish council.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Gibbs Surfacing Ltd, which owns and operates the concrete batching plant, where the ingredients needed for new concrete and road surfaces are mixed, at 21 Turnpike Road in Blunsdon has been given permission to change the use of its site to a large-scale storage business.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The company will be allowed to bring in 250 shipping containers which will be stacked in twos around the perimeter of its site and in a double row down the middle.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The site will be used as self-storage containers for individuals who need more storage than their own home allows.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n At a planning committee meeting on July 9, Blunsdon Parish councillor Jim Taylor asked members to reject the proposals.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n He said the height of the stacked containers would be visually intrusive, the floodlights would disturb residents at night and the traffic would cause significant trouble in a narrow lane which has residential homes mixed with other light industrial units.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n But councillors thought the new use of the site was appropriate.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Councillor Matty Courtliff, seconding a proposal to approve the application said: \u201cIt\u2019s already an industrial site, the new use is appropriate and the height of the containers in keeping with other buildings in the era.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
