{"id":2638,"date":"2022-10-11T15:46:31","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T15:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/listselfstorage.com\/us\/industry-insights\/?p=2638"},"modified":"2022-10-11T16:22:05","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T16:22:05","slug":"former-family-owned-grocery-store-to-become-storage-facility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/listselfstorage.com\/us\/industry-insights\/former-family-owned-grocery-store-to-become-storage-facility\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Family-Owned Grocery Store to Become Storage Facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\nA building once home to a family-owned grocery is heading toward a new use, following a vote Tuesday from the Weirton Zoning Board of Appeals.<\/p>\n<p>Antonio Magnone went before the board with a request for a conditional use to establish an indoor self-storage facility at 3684 Pennsylvania Ave in Weirton, WV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to do an indoor, climate-controlled storage,\u201d Magnone explained, noting the building has \u201cgood bones,\u201d although the parking lot has some issues.<\/p>\n<p>Board Chair Keith Huntzinger stated the building in question once was the home of DeCaria\u2019s Market.<\/p>\n<p>Planning Director Mark Miller stated the city had no issues with the plan, explaining it had to come before the Zoning Board as approval is required for self-storage facilities locating into a mixed-use district under the city\u2019s zoning code.<\/p>\n<p>The building has been vacant for some time,\u201d Miller said. \u201cThis would be a good use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indicating he had purchased some neighboring buildings, as well, Magnone said he is looking to redevelop each for future use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a plan for the whole block,\u201d Magnone said.<\/p>\n<p>The board also approved a request from resident Agina Kempen for an additional three-foot variance to permit new 30-foot-wide driveways at her two duplexes on Booker Street.<\/p>\n<p>Kempen noted she previously had been approved for a variance to establish 27-foot-wide driveways at the property, but was advised including a three-foot apron would provide easier access to the driveways for renters.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s UDO allows a maximum 24-foot width.<\/p>\n<p>In other business, the Zoning Board took a request from DeNoon Lumber on behalf of Three Sprins Industrial Park LLC for timbering on approximately 30 acres off of Thompson Hill Road off the table, noting they would plan to continue discussion at the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirtondailytimes.com\/news\/local-news\/2022\/10\/former-family-owned-grocery-store-to-become-storage-facility\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A building once home to a family-owned grocery is heading toward a new use, following a vote Tuesday from the Weirton Zoning Board of Appeals.
