A new apartment complex and a self-storage facility look to be coming to a spot on the west side of Glendale.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The city council at its Tuesday voting session will consider adopting an ordinance to approve a rezoning application for a 24-acre project titled 101 & Northern Avenue (Thompson Thrift Storage) at the southeast corner of Northern and 99th avenues.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The planned area development narrative calls for an apartment complex consisting of three buildings totaling 234 units on 11 acres. The other portion of the parcel is targeted for a self-storage facility.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Thompson Thrift Retail Group is the project developer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Figures show apartment complexes continue to ascend from the ground around Glendale.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to planning data from the city\u2019s development services department, from 2019 through September 2022, 18 apartment complexes with a total of 3,569 units gained approval for construction. In the previous four years, 2018 through 2015, Glendale saw just three apartment complexes with 640 units go up.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s a 500% increase in complexes and 458% jump in total units from one four-year stretch to the next. <\/span><\/span><\/span>And the apartment complex growth is not limited to any particular area of town. Construction on those approved in 2021 and 2022 is taking place in seven different ZIP codes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
