The Roxboro City Council unanimously voted to approve a site plan for a self-storage facility at 1147 Shelton Road Tuesday night.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The facility is proposed to feature 16,314 square feet of buildings with one office and five self-storage buildings, triggering a major site review by the council Tuesday night.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The city requires a Planning Board and council review when projects are more than 7,000 square feet in structures or more than one acre of disturbed area.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n In November, the Planning Board unanimously recommended approval of the site plan.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The amount of disturbed area necessitates a stormwater pond in the northwest corner of the property, city Planning Director Lauren Johnson said Tuesday night.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The property will feature a fence around the lot and a sidewalk in front.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The proposed lighting on the property garnered public comment at the city Planning Board meeting, but the submitted lighting plan meets the city\u2019s ordinance requirements and does not present any concerns to the surrounding properties, Johnson said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The property is zoned for industrial uses and the proposed storage facility is allowed in that zoning and all buildings meet or exceed the required setbacks.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Johnson said the parking and landscape buffer meet city requirements. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The staff recommendation was to approve the site plan with the conditions that the construction drawings be submitted to the Roxboro Fire Department, city Public Services Department, city Planning Department and Person County Building Inspections office for review and approval prior to construction; all stormwater bonds and documentation be finalized prior to beginning site work; and the necessary driveway permit be obtained prior to beginning site work.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
