Storage of America (SOA) has facilities in six states, including Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Founded in 2003 by Robert and Joni Walker, SOA specializes in converting under-used or empty buildings into nice climate-controlled self-storage facilities. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And on Saturday, Aug. 24, the Walkers held a grand opening for their newest facility \u2014 in Goodman.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Joni Walker said SOA acquired the vacant Hunte Corporation building in Goodman and began remodeling. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It has opened the first phase of the building comprising about 200 indoor, climate-controlled units ranging from units as small as 5\u00d75 units to large drive-in, climate-controlled bays that are 18\u00d774, with 16-foot overhead doors, \u201cperfect for contractors or small businesses for $650.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have great security with cameras throughout the facility,\u201d said Walker. \u201cThere also is a newly-paved, gated area for RV and boat storage in the parking lot. \u201cWe had a great turnout Saturday with people coming from Goodman and surrounding communities, and we loved meeting them.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The event featured free hot dogs, drinks and popcorn along with a face painter and a balloon twister for entertainment. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Several people took tours of the facility and were pleased to see how the conversion turned out.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Walker: \u201cMany had worked or had memories of being in the building and were glad to see it repurposed.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The winner of the raffle for a 72-inch Smart TV was Kelly Watkins.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Storage of America has approximately 16,000 units throughout the nation comprising of about 3.5 million square feet. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
