AIMEE HANCOCK\/STAFF\" width=\"530\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The owner of a self-storage facility in Englewood is requesting city approval of plans to expand the business after withdrawing a similar set of plans last month.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Joey Madden, president of MSC Englewood LLC and owner of Extra Space Storage located at 360 W. National Road in Englewood \u2014 which is in a former K-Mart building \u2014 submitted a request earlier this year to expand the storage facility and develop additional retail and public space along West National Road.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">After the planning commission recommended the denial of Madden\u2019s request, he withdrew the plans before they could be considered by the city council.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Late last month, Madden submitted a new and scaled-back request.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This second set of plans would see the construction of additional, fully enclosed, storage units for boats and RVs at the rear of the property, a marked difference from the initial, withdrawn plans.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The new request was tabled by the planning commission last week, with commission members requesting additional information from the developer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The commission will revisit the issue during its April 2 meeting.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Madden\u2019s original request involved extensive plans to develop a \u201cmodern retail center,\u201d a restaurant\/coffee shop, a \u201dpocket park,\u201c and additional storage space in front of the business, in what is now a large parking lot.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The expansion of the storage business would have included the addition of multiple rows of outdoor storage garages. The current 84,000-square-foot Extra Space Storage business is an all-indoor facility.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The new plans would have a more minimal effect on the property, which sits on 9.6 acres of land along the city\u2019s main thoroughfare.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">By placing the buildings at the rear of the property, the existing facility will provide a buffer to essentially and effectively minimize the buildings from being visible from West National Road or Union Boulevard,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt is also important to note that boat and RV is very low-intensity storage use and would only result in a very minimal increase in traffic to the site, which would occur behind the existing building.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.daytondailynews.com\/local\/developer-submits-altered-plans-to-expand-englewood-self-storage-facility\/RTPBOUMCANCCFMKIAKVPNAKNBM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Source<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The owner of a self-storage facility in Englewood is requesting city approval of plans to expand the business after withdrawing a similar set of plans last month.
