(Scott Anderson)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The future development of the former La Salle Public Works Building, at 500 2nd St., remains in the hands of the city council.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">President of Glenstone Development Nathan Watson, the former president of CL Real Estate Development, presented a plan to redevelop the property.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Watson proposed selling the historic building for $260,000 and redeveloping the property into a coffee shop with potential drive-thru access, a sales office with co-working space, and climate-controlled self-storage.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The building was originally constructed as a car dealership and later repurposed into the city\u2019s armory during the Korean War era before becoming the city\u2019s public works building.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Alderman Reynolds took a moment to \u201cclear the air in [the] community\u201d by reiterating that this redevelopment project is purely Watson\u2019s and has no relation to Watson\u2019s previous redevelopment projects with CLRED.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Watson said the estimated total cost of the conversion would be $2.33 million.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The council approved a motion to form a committee to \u201chash out\u201d negotiations.
