A storage facility off Quail Creek Road that sustained thousands of dollars in damage earlier this year is set to be rebuilt by October, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n On Jan. 26, the Storage Star self-storage facility was found in flames by the Laredo Fire Department shortly after 9 p.m. Items ranging from family photos and documents to cars stored inside the building at 2110 Quail Creek Rd. were left charred, unrecognizable and turned to ash.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Aftermath coverage showed photos of the storage units\u2019 bright yellow doors faded into heavy grey and black tones, with dividing metal walls curled and bent from the heat of the fire. Smoke-stained bottles of aged tequila and whiskey, antique furniture and melted boats still attached to their cradles were left untouched behind police tape. A few splotches of color from stuffed animals, children\u2019s clothes and other mementos somehow remained unscathed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n More than five months later \u2014 with the cause of the fire still undisclosed \u2014 Storage Star is planning to rebuild, according to a permit filed Monday.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Approximately 11,100 square feet will be remodelled by Illinois-based design firm Groundwork Ltd., whose portfolio includes more than 100 self-storage facility projects across the state, from ground-up developments to renovations and conversions. The rebuild is estimated to cost $438,000 through private funding.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
