Plans for a new lock-up storage facility for residents and businesses near the River Lune have been given the go-ahead. The plans for 474 storage units in 21 blocks in a former builder’s merchants yard on New Quay Road in Lancaster were given planning permission on Monday. A 51,000 sq ft scheme on a 6.4-acre site previously occupied by Travis Perkins has been given planning permission by the city council. The development forms part of WUKPG’s aim to amass a £150m portfolio of self-storage assets by 2030. Two more projects in Horwich and Northwich are also in the works. Self-storage units continue to fill up space in Gloucestershire with plans revealed for a new 1,950 sq m store in Cheltenham. They propose turning the former Huws Gray/Buildbase in Chosen Road into a site that will attract up to 15 customers a day. The site has sat empty since the building merchants relocated to Eastern Avenue in Gloucester in February.
