Vanguard Self Storage has received planning permission to convert a vacant office in Maidenhead into a new branch – its tenth in England.
The 50,000 sq ft office building on Norreys Drive will be converted into a 660-unit self-storage facility offering 40,000 sq ft of net lettable space across three floors.
In line with Vanguard’s other premises, the Maidenhead store is set to feature a historical centrepiece as a focal point for the site.
A de Havilland Vampire aircraft, currently being restored, will be displayed in the triple-height atrium – the second in Vanguard’s collection following the first installed at the Bath branch, which opened earlier this year.
The site will also provide indoor loading bays, two 3.5-tonne Kone lifts and 24/7 CCTV monitoring, as well as sustainable features including a 100 kWp rooftop solar PV system, energy-efficient lighting and EV charging points.
The refurbishment is expected to take six months and could support more than 100 jobs in related businesses based on data from Vanguard’s Bristol store.
Will McCullagh, managing director of London-based Vanguard, said: “Maidenhead is a natural next step for us.
“It’s a rapidly growing, affluent town that has benefited from the introduction of the Elizabeth Line, improving connectivity to London and the surrounding region.
“Its mix of businesses and residents makes it an ideal location for a modern, secure storage facility, and we’re looking forward to bringing Vanguard’s high standards of service to the community in early 2026.”
