A self-storage business on Powhatan Road near U.S. 70 Business can expand, the Town Council said at a recent meeting.
American Self Storage can add 4,500 square feet to an existing building and construct a three-story, 78,000-square-foot building at 3986 and 3936 Powhatan Road.
Both buildings will be climate-controlled, and access to units in both will be from the interior only.
“It’ll just provide a different product from what’s there right now, just make it a full self-storage facility with external storage, internal storage,” said Bart McClain, project engineer for American Self Storage.
Planning staff noted that the request was consistent with the town’s future land-use plan, which sees the area as an employment center. Nearby are a convenience store and chemical wholesaler.
The council’s decision was unanimous.
