A local farm stand and the long-vacant Tectonic building are being proposed to be demolished to make way for a three-story self-storage facility in Bridgewater.
An application filed by Bridgewater Storage LLC will be heard at the March 25 Bridgewater Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting.
The applicant is proposing to consolidate the properties at 351 Route 28 (occupied by Melick’sTown Farm) and 322 Route 22(vacant office building previously occupied by Tectonic.
The farmstand and Tectonic buildings would be demolished to construct a new 120,570 square-foot, three-story self-storage facility.
The application is seeking several variances including not being a permitted principal use in the C3 Zone; exceeding the maximum floor area ratio; front heard setback; and more.
The 5.47-acre Tectonic property has stood vacant for many years. Previously in 2015, Quick Chek proposed a plan for a 24-hour, 5,700-square-foot convenience market on the site.
However, Quick Chek withdrew its application following strong opposition from neighboring residents. Most recently in June 2024, the Township approved a project to build a three-story self-storage facility at the corner of Route 22 and Vosseller Avenue.
The Bridgewater Zoning Board of Adjustment are held in person at the Bridgewater Township Municipal Building at 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater, and streamed live on the Bridgewater Township YouTube channel which can be viewed by clicking on the video stream labelled “BridgewaterZoning Board” at @BridgewaterNewJersey.
