Scottish Borders Council has approved an application from Eyemouth-based seafood company D.R. Collin & Son to convert land at a former training centre on Coldingham Road Industrial Estate into a self-storage compound for 53 shipping containers, arranged in four rows of eight and operating between 8 am and 6 pm. Some local residents objected, citing concerns over site density, traffic, parking, and noise.
The council’s planning officer concluded the development would have limited impact if properly managed, attaching conditions for an operating plan and external lighting controls. The decision reflects the planning considerations that container-based storage schemes can raise in industrial settings.
