Website Design Elements for Self Storage

Website design is important for the self storage industry. An effective website should be built with a sound technical build-out. This provides a foundation for success and gives you a solid base to build off of as you progress through the website design process.

Sound Technical Build-Out

The technical aspect of your website should not be ignored! Your goal should be to prioritize page speed, security and device compatibility or responsiveness. Your website CAN’T be slow when loading content or pages for a few reasons:

  • Your visitors will become frustrated or concerned and move on to a new site.
  • Google’s ranking algorithm factors in page speed and load times when they rank websites on the search engine results page.

Both of these things are issues for your website to perform well, so they cannot be ignored. If you currently have a website already and are curious about your page speed, check out this free tool from Google: Page Speed Insights.

In today’s day and age, everyone realizes the importance of mobile devices, but you’d be surprised how often we find websites that are not mobile-friendly. This principle is key because tenants use their phones to rent units the majority of the time, they do not always use a desktop to visit your website and rent units. In fact, over 50% of all website traffic comes from mobile devices and because of that trend, Google actually indexes and prioritizes the mobile version of your website first (Google). If your website looks and performs poorly on mobile devices you are obviously going to be set up at a huge disadvantage.

By having a sound technical build-out, your website will have a solid foundation for success!
