The self-storage industry has exploded over the last several years, rising 8% to $44.3 billion, according to the 2024 Self-Storage Almanac. The industry is expected to reach $50 billion by 2029.

There are currently an estimated 52,301 self-storage facilities in the United States, covering nearly 2.1 billion square feet. Just over 11% of U.S. households, about 14.6 million, currently maintain a self-storage space.

Where is it?

The new Franklin Self-Storage site will be located at 10700 Railroad Drive, according to the city’s permit and licensing page.

The new self-storage site is located across the street from a widely residential area, though nearby are ATI El Paso, a plastic fabrication company, and Green Bay Packaging Inc.

What was there before?

The new Franklin Self-Storage facility will be a new construction project located on currently vacant land heading out toward Chaparral, New Mexico.

It’s unclear how much acreage the project will require, but the facility is planned to include 882 self-storage units.

Who is the contractor?

The contractor for the project is not listed on the city’s website, but the applicant for the project is Javier Roque of Roque Architecture in El Paso. The owner is listed as Franklin Self-Storage with Gustavo Quinrana as the lead point of contact.

The project is valued at $1 million.
